Mr. Caliendo’s practice focuses on all aspects of criminal defense in both federal and state courts. Deftly navigating the criminal justice system, he fights to stave off charges during investigations, win trials, and even obtain post-conviction relief when necessary. He has represented clients in high-profile matters ranging from murder and drug offenses to assorted financial frauds. He has represented corporate and entertainment industry executives, and even fellow lawyers.
He has a 9.8 AVOO rating. One former client - expecting to serve five years in prison - instead completed a program and now credits Mr. Caliendo with having “saved my life.”
Previously, Mr. Caliendo practiced law for nearly a decade in the Bronx County District Attorney’s Office. Primarily assigned to the Rackets Bureau, he tried many complex and high profile matters in addition to briefing and arguing appeals. Significant investigatory experience included overseeing wiretap cases and criminal probes into misconduct by the New York City Police Department and New York City Department of Corrections.
Mr. Caliendo has lectured for attorneys on various topics. He has guest lectured at Adelphi University on Long Island and at the New York City Police Academy. He is a member of the White Collar Crime Committee of the New York State Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, whose mission is to promote excellence in criminal defense. He has been a member of the New York Inn of Court, whose mission is to foster excellence in professionalism, ethics, civility, and legal skills. He has participated in the Mentor Program and Alumni Admissions Board at his alma mater, Brooklyn Law School, from where he graduated cum laude.
Mr. Caliendo is admitted to practice law in the Courts of New York State, the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
